baby showers

rockabye baby

hello there!!

so…i’m still alive.  i survived the sleepless nights with the baby, it seems…  so maybe life is on its way back to being a little bit normal, or the new normal anyway.  we actually went out of town sans kids this past weekend for my college friend stephanie’s wedding – omg!  it was great to get away and have a little fun with old friends.  i was gently prodded to blog more, or…ever, by some friends there and i thought – they’re right!  i have a lot of posts i owe you.  tons of weddings (does anyone not love wedding photos?), before & after house posts and the damn KITCHEN!  i agree, that whole thing is ridiculous.  but i really will show it soon!

first, today – i bring you an adorable baby shower with a rocking horse theme.  there is a great neighborhood here in atlanta (that we almost bought a house in many moons ago) called castlewood, and in it is a street named rockingham.  my client and the guest of honor both live on that street, so she thought, why not throw her a rocking horse themed shower?  i love it.  here are the invitations…

IMG_6085my favorite feature was a foldover return address label – “rockabye baby” on the front, and return address on the back.  #obsessed

also, i am loving the black and white vintage rose stamps with the tiny red heart on them.  usps is killing it lately!

and the shower – how beautiful.

a garden sprinkle for baby girl

OH MY GOODNESS am worst blogger ever.  i know i have left you SO hanging with the reno diaries, and for that i am so sorry!  we’ve been through two (TWO!) back to back snowstorms here in atlanta the past few weeks and it has just sent everything askew.  think NO SCHOOL for nearly two full weeks.  erggg…  so i’ve been playing major catch-up on life and paper projects ever since.  and confirmed that home schooling would just not be an option for us.

i’m still working on the next installment of the renovation diaries, but i do have something to show you today…  remember my friend brin?  it was her wedding invitation that kicked this whole little thing called calliespondence off!  well, she recently gave birth to her second little girl which HAD to be feted.  you may recall the miranda shower (really….there were chicken fingers from zaxby’s) we threw for her 1st baby girl, with nary a pink napkin in sight.  well, upon news of bambina #2, brin has adopted a new m.o. of “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” and is now embracing some things pink.  not all, but some.  so off i went with a subtle pink allowance – better than none at all! :)

*note: i did not have one of brin’s invitations handy so substituted the same invitation printed for another client, but you’ll get the point :)

peony scalloped kraft paper invite

lives in the etsy shop here.scalloped baby shower invitethis had to be the easiest shower i have ever planned.  i called one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants, watershed, and reserved a table for 10-12 gals on their fabulous outdoor patio (in the case of good weather).  easy peasy.  i also whipped up floral arrangements – one main arrangement and two smaller ones, which i had so much fun doing.  they were made from white roses, pink hydrangeas, pink snapdragons and pittosporum.  the main one i put into a square glass vase with scotch tape making a grid, and then slid the flowers in…and the smaller ones, i just jammed a bunch of stuff into two mint julep cups.  here is roughly what the tape grid looks like…

Floral Tape

all i had to do once i got to the restaurant is display them – the rest of the table was set and looked darling.  we ended up having beautiful weather, so we were able to sit outside – and who doesn’t love alfresco dining?

bonjour bebe

i have been so remiss in showing you parties from my majorly creative and cute clients!!  i just found photos from this adorable baby shower on my desktop, and then ran across the actual invite in my sample bin and thought it was a sign that i needed to blog about it.  and honestly…i have no idea even what october this shower is from.  the baby being honored is probably in pre-K now.  no matter.  i LOVE the theme of this shower – c’est francais, bonjour bebe!  lavender and navy were the colors, and i adore the little sprig of lavender atop the invite.

sweet pea scalloped invitationand i just love when i get to attend a shower for which i do the invitations!  the mother-to-be is a neighborhood friend who just moved away to another state…boo hoo!  but i loved getting to see her with her adorable bump and catch up a bit.

here she is (wearing a SUPER cute black dress in the middle – i seriously want that dress, maternity or not!) with all of the lovely hostesses.

tickled purple

i am so thrilled to show y’all this baby shower!!  it rivals the perfection of an amy atlas event and y’all already know the location…!  the hostess was the fabulously stylish gal, dixie,  who rents my beloved condo (and takes magnificent care of her, wait ’til you see…) and held the shower there.  aside from infusing the condo with her stellar decor, this party had no detail overlooked.  not one!  starting with a bevy of paper goods…

and this wasn’t even all of them!   for the invitation, we featured a sweet purple bird motif and a solid purple back (not pictured).  envelopes were lined with a grey and white chevron, and we fashioned matching thank you notes along with favor and bag tags.  don’t they look great on the chinese take out boxes?

there was a clever guessing game, as well.

…and bookplates too.

but i’m getting ahead of myself.  first, go and look at what the condo used to look like when we were living there…  i’ll wait.  btw, it looked that tidy that maybe 4 times when i lived there.  ok, did you see the nursery room that was really a sunroom?  that’s here.

don’t the original 1920 casement windows just take your breath away?  they don’t insulate for *$)# but they’re soooo pretty.

and the dining room… (note the hot pink ceiling – would never have thought of it.  brilliant.)

is this not the cutest little food table you ever did see?

the treats were made by family and purchased around town at whole foods, the pie shop and good ol’ publix (where the buckeyes below came from – so apropos since the parents-to-be both hail from ohio)!

the present opening and game activities were held in the living room…

and how about this dress situation dixie (the blonde with the colorful dress) has going on.  j’adore.  i need to know more!

seeing these pictures makes me think of all the times i entertained in the condo.  i loved that little place.  so much light, the big old windows, gorgeous molding throughout…i have to say, i’m so glad we didn’t sell her.  i’m not ready to say goodbye to that little sunroom yet, where rush spent all of his nights as a baby!  dixie, you can live there as long as you want – i am so fortunate to have found someone who is as fond of #A5 as much as i am!!

celebrating who was to become known as rinne

remember when i was pregnant…like a year ago?  i do.  pretty sure my back recalls too, and the skin on my stomach definitely does.  well, a few of my sweet friends insisted on throwing me a little sprinkle to celebrate the upcoming bambino, by way of a perfectly perfect “toes and tea” party!  anyone who knows me knows i L-O-V-E my tea.  all kinds!  i do not discriminate on type, oh no.  chai, earl grey, english breakfast, roobios, mate, green, peppermint…i could go on all day.  the saddest thing about being a stay-at-home-working-mama is that i have had to move on to the hard stuff (coffee) after years of a love affair with tea and only tea, but oh man, we had some good times.  hot tea and i reunite when i’m sick or want something hot before bed (aveda tea…try it…fan-freaking-tastic).

the uber stylish hostesses (jen, brin, shannon and betsey) hit it out of the park with the invitation…

i loved the wrap around patterned band!

here i am as i walked out the door to the par-tay.  i was HUGE.  for the record, i fielded comments such as “wow – you must be ready to go ANY DAY!!!!” from approximately 6 months on. was awesome.

the party was nothing short of wonderful!  i have the sweetest, most thoughtful friends…they included all of my favorite things, and who doesn’t love a pedicure amongst pals.

they served ina’s rosemary cashews…

jalapeno-spring onion dip (not for the faint of heart!)…

beautiful macarons and flowers…

shannon’s famous cupcakes.  boy, are they good.

and a TEA station complete with vintage teacups.  i mean, are you kidding me.  tres magnifique!

spike-able punch, white wine and prosecco was also available.

the favors were perfect, of course.  a handful of individually wrapped teabags and a tea strainer.  i mean…these girls think of everything!

of course the hostess gifts (goodies from anthropologie) had to match the party.

and it KILLS me that i did not think to get a picture of all of the guests!  kills me.  i only thought about it once everyone had cleared out, post-pedi.  here are shannon, me and merrell at the very end.

such a fun day – i felt so loved!

serena & lily inspired baby shower invitation

i actually should title this post “better late than never.”  i loved this invitation back when i did it, meant to photograph it and put it on the blog but never got around to it.  well, the shower was a year ago july, and i did the baby of honor’s birth announcement in december (which will be showcased with the holiday birth announcements, coming soon!).  i mean, that’s embarrassing.  it’s a good thing i am doing this big website update because it forced me to get a TON of projects camera ready and hot to trot on the internets!!!

ok, so the cute gals who put on this shower used the mama’s crib bedding as a color palette for the shower – great idea, no?  i thought so too.  i really love nearly everything serena & lily do.  where WERE they in 2009 when i was shopping for crib bedding??!!

not a bad match, right?

i especially loved doing this invitation for lara because we go way back.  all the way to heards ferry elementary…she was in my younger brother brannon’s class, and then many years later she became a sorority sister.  how fun is that!

and now she is a gorgeous mama to a precious little boy.  congrats lara!

new invitation design

does it seem like forever since i’ve done a post on … how you say … paper items … oh yeah, stationery??  supposedly what this whole blog is about.  and i tell you, i would change the masthead above…but i lost the design file in my computer crash and whenever i think about trying to figure out how many pixels long and high it’s supposed to be, i suddenly remember that i have bills that need to go out in the mail in five minutes.  or a load of laundry to fold.  so it stays.  but if i could alter it, i think i would change it to “musings on stationery, motherhood and making a house a home.”  wow, that looks a lot lamer on paper than it sounds in my head.  eh.  i’ll just leave it and apologize for all of the non-paper posts.

but – i actually have something paper-related to say!  there is a new design in the wheelhouse of calliespondence.

behold….CIRCLE.  i know.  the name is quite groundbreaking.

i love the turquoise and navy colorway, but can think of so many other combos that it would look ravishing in.

here’s another variation that i did recently for another baby shower.

it’s square!  and i also literally just snapped these pictures on my desk.  right now.  real time.

for sale via etsy shop here.  or of course you can always just email me to go the old fashioned route.

circle – welcome to the family.  we’re glad to have you!

hot pink and navy

one of my favorite color combinations is hot pink and navy.  it’s like crazy mixed with classy…yet it totally works.  take a look at these combos in action!

it also worked well for a bridal shower invitation i just did.  we mounted the invite on fuschia cardstock and lined the matching envelopes in a navy abstract floral print.

we used a navy blue satin ribbon wrapped around for a fun detail.
so fresh, right?  it would also work beautifully in a baby shower invitation for a mama having a little gal!

chevron for a baby shower

if you are a red-blooded american female, chances are you know and love chevron…it’s so in right now and everywhere you look, which i LOVE.  to me, it’s a timeless pattern and i never tire of gazing at it.  i recently designed a somewhat hip baby shower invite with a grey chevron pattern and turquoise giraffe motif.  it really could have been gender neutral, even though this mama is having a little boy.  lord help her!

turquoise and grey really suit each other.

the baby shower bookplates continue to be a best seller!  these featured a smaller giraffe to match the invite.

i can’t wait to hear the news of this little man!!

speaking of little men, if anyone was in the UPS store on howell mill yesterday observing a two and a half year old boy laying on the ground throwing a tantrum because mean mommy wouldn’t let him push all of the buttons on every xerox and fax machine in the place…that may or may not have been me and my little guy.  and p.s., it’s damn hard to carry slash lug a 35 pound toddler to the car when you have another bambino in a bjorn…if you were thinking about doing that sometime soon.

hope y’all have wonderful weekends!!
xoxo
