tag sale announcement & oscars

tag sale time

some very exciting news to report….we’re having a TAG SALE tomorrow!!!!  it will be a two-day event.  tomorrow (tuesday, 2/26) will be a bits and pieces sale – all under 10 quantity sets of notecards.  then wednesday (2/27) will be a gift tag and holiday clean out sale.  YAHOO!!  i had never really thought to do one of these before, but i just cannot stand seeing things go to waste and, well, we need to make some room for new things around here.  so YOU will reap the benefits of our pre-spring cleaning!  i’ll post the blog with all of the items at 1:00 p.m. EST both days.  you can email me at callie@calliespondence.com with the items you want – first come, first served!  i’ll send you a paypal invoice and once you take care of it, i’ll put your items in the mail to you.  shipping is $2.00 per item.  i mean, what a DEAL!  and you know how i feel about a deal.  i can’t wait!

in other news, did you watch the oscars last night?  i always love the oscars.  i have to admit, i had NO idea who the host was until he walked out on stage (and not even then, actually).  before the show, i thought it was:

110128mag-JesseTyle-Ferguson1(i am one of the 9 people on the planet who do not watch modern family)

but then sometimes i thought, maybe it’s this guy.

seth-meyers-photosand then when he walked out, i was like, “oh casey affleck?  i was so off!”

casey-affleck-westwood-premiere-miramax-films-gone-baby-970452350but i have to say, i was so impressed with seth mcfarlane!  i know he got some pans, but i guess my standards aren’t that high for a host.  if you’re relatively cute and make me laugh, i like you.  i thought his intro bit was hilarious (the sock puppet reenactment of ‘the flight?’ the boob song?), could not BELIEVE that he could also sing and dance (and well at that?!) and loved his and kristen chenoweth’s “here’s to the losers” at the very end.  sure, he had a few off color jokes but don’t they all?  plus, an added bonus, rbb loves ‘the family guy’ so he even watched for a little while alongside me – unprecedented.

my favorite looks of the night – amy adams for sure.  just so feminine and lovely.  jessica chastain, you FINALLY got it right!  i have not been able to figure out why an “it” girl like her has not been able to land a decent stylist.  but the hair was working with the dress and the red lip just tied it all together.

9005127_600x338i am still wondering why anne hathaway wore my 1996 prom dress to the oscars – especially when she was picked to (and did) win.  i am going to track down a photo and do a side by side.  it’s uncanny.

59814_1naomi’s hair was EN FUEGO.  i was obsessed.  dress, take or leave it.  but the hair!

naomi_watts_oscars_hair_jeff_kravitzfilmmagic_18ilh2u-18ilhbkbest speech: ben affleck.  i had to stay up late to see it, but it was so worth it.  he and jen are the cutest and i totally teared up when he was talking about her, and then when his voice went out at the end when he said his kids’ names.  so sweet.

Ben Afflecksee you tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for the TAG SALE!!!

friday tidbits

greetings y’all!  how’s it going? i can’t believe it’s already friday.  crazytown.

remember my moss wreath i had around christmastime on our front door?  when rbb took it down, he put it by the back door.  it actually was supposed to be hung on our back door, but you know how these things go.  so there it sat for a few weeks, and i would look out my kitchen window and think, “oh there’s that wreath, still.”  but it always looked super green and lush…and i was replanting some pots the other day and thought…maybe?  and it turns out, yes!!  i do love to repurpose.

replanted moss

in other news around the house, we got the rug for rush’s room in and it is AWESOME!  i love it so much.  it’s a dash and albert that jen (of course!) picked out.  i also removed his ghetto rails that were falling apart and inserted a pool noodle, cut in half, on either side of the bed under the mattress cover.  looks infinitely better!!

photo-183 copy 5

anybody have a 3 year old little boy in your household?  well, i would advise you to lock up your valuable pieces of jewelry for a spell.  rbb came home last week and had to do some trash detail, so he dropped his wedding band on the counter and got to work.  the next day before leaving for work, he asked me if i had seen his wedding band…no?  i say, it will turn up.  a few more days pass and i ask him if he had found his wedding band, he says no, and then talked through all of the places he thought it could be.  rush is in the room playing, and starts saying something about being under the fridge.  i stop and ask – what’s under the fridge?  he says, dada’s ring!  i think…that’s impossible…but ask him to show me.  he lays down on the floor, points to a spot in the bowels of our refrigerator, and lo and behold – there’s the ring.  (see the tiny gold speck?)  now how the hell to get it out, i’m taking bright ideas in the comment section!  how did he get it that far under there?  i’ll never know.

does rinne need this, or does rinne need this?  i die.

the other day, the wildest thing happened.  my mom had to switch the day she came to watch the kids at the last minute (isn’t she sweet to do that??  God bless her!) and i was faced with a day, untethered, to do with what i pleased.  what a gift!  i caught a pilates class for the first time in…um…a really long time.  it was fabulous!!  my pilates studio is amidst this really cool street full of art galleries, antique shops and interior design studios.  i poked my nose into a few shops and this multi-studio art gallery caught my eye…until i went in and nearly turned right around.  what cool art could possibly be waiting behind this sad, empty, daylight disco door?

photo-183 copy 3

turns out…my new favorite artist, patricia ellinger!  i wandered downstairs where the “open to the public” galleries were, and there was activity in one of the studios.  once i walked in, the sweetest lady greeted me and introduced me to the other artists she shares space with, and told me to look around.  i told her that i loved her work and basically pulled up a chair…  these bright, lively, watercolor interiors had me at hello.  i couldn’t decide between the two in the foreground…i’m leaning towards the one on the left now.

photo-183 copy 2

i hope you all have downright lovely weekends!  mine is going to get off to a fun start with a date night celebrating a dear friend’s recent engagement.  champers, it’s been a long week and i am ready for you.  lylas.

wild things

the etsy shop is a funny thing.  i end up working with really cool people all over the country (and even world – i shipped out an invitation order to australia yesterday!  so crazy.) but wouldn’t even know them if they were to walk right past me.  that is what is so wild to me about the internets.  they connect people in an amazing way, but at the same time remain so damn anonymous.  a new anonymous etsy friend in boston asked me to do the “jungle” birthday party invitation for her daughter violet’s birthday party – wait, don’t get excited – this is NOT ben affleck and jennifer garner’s child.  although with the boston and violet thing i can see why your mind went there.  and they are not anonymous anyway, i would totally know them if they walked right in front of me.  and then i would squeal.  after i fainted because they wanted me to design violet’s birthday party invitation.

anyway.

this fete was held at the franklin park zoo in boston, and the photographer, bella wang, was sweet enough to email me the downright fabulous photos she took.  wow – she’s good, and the party looks like it was a great time!

charmed to meet you

did i ever tell you that rbb surprised me with tickets to the indigo girls + atlanta symphony orchestra tickets back in december?  it was a fantastic concert!  if you don’t know, the indigo girls are local celebs around town and one of them is a part owner of the restaurant watershed.  they also happen to be gay (i think they used to date!  how awkward would that be post break-up!?  they’re too cool though.  they wouldn’t let it get to them.) and are very peace, love, harmony.  probably err on the side of PETA, let’s say, for argument’s sake.  when i got dressed for the concert, i simply thought to myself….what’s a fun outfit i’m loving right now?  hmm, maybe this beaded flowy top with skinny white jeans, my sky high loubs (my only pair – they were my wedding shoes) and to cap it off, fur coat perhaps?  never mind it was approximately 55 degrees outside, it’s december and i’m going on a date night!  hell yes fur coat!  we walked into the concert hall and i caught some strange, disapproving glances.  i pondered for a minute and then thought DOH!!!  INDIGO GIRLS!!!  REAL FUR!!!  GAH callie, really?  nice.  but you can’t very well hide a fur coat so i had to rock it. or the fact that you’re super overdressed and blingy in a room full of boyfriend jeans and doc martens.

during the intermission, i texted my friend shannon because i knew she was there too.  we made plans to meet up at one of the bars for a quick drink, and she said in her last text, “just look for the girl wearing gold lamé pants!  you can’t miss me.  only one around.”

and then i knew – we were just meant to be friends.

callie & shannonshannon is one of those girls that you wish lived next door to you so you could raid their closet at any time.  that’s what i did before my 1st calliespondence photo shoot!  i needed a cute outfit to wear for my website photo, so i bee bopped on over to shannon’s house and she suited me right up with some fab frocks.  we also have happened to be pregnant at completely opposite times, so we just swap clothes back and forth.  i would say we’ve gotten our money’s worth considering we’ve had 4 babies between us!

the exciting news is that shannon is opening her own online jewelry auction site so everyone can enjoy and purchase the awesome items her keen eye procures!  do y’all know how those work?  there are directions on the page, but basically if you see something you like, you just comment on the photo with your email address and “sold” and it’s yours.  easy peasy!  all of the items are super affordable and include free shipping, too.  calliespondence was happy to whip up a logo for her…and i’m sure you’ll be charmed to meet her as well!

shannon reynolds - charmed logo

i’m already so excited for her first auction this sunday 2/24 at 8:30 p.m., i may not be able to sleep between now and then.  here’s a sampling of her wares (majorly coveting those leather bracelets):

leather stack - CHARMED

emerald_earring_and_gold_neck

PINK bracelet and gold necklace - CHARMED

earrings - CHARMED

leather bracelets - CHARMEDby the way, if this stationery thing doesn’t work out, i’m totally getting into the arm modeling biz.  (yes, that is my wrist above.)  i like any job you can perform whilst drinking wine and chatting.

be sure to “like” charmed jewelry & accessory auction here and don’t miss the 1st auction this coming sunday!  she’ll make you closer to fine.  oh yes, i just did that.

xoxo

be mine

happy valentine’s day, lovahs!  i have to say, i have come to really like valentine’s day.  the original callie (my grandmother) was born on valentine’s day so it’s always been special in that way, and now that i have kids of my own, it’s so fun to do it up with sweet treats, a few gifts and oodles of red and pink.  we had rush’s little valentine’s day party at preschool yesterday and it was precious.  he wore red in honor of the occasion, and was quite excited to hand out his treasures.

rush valentines

the treasures were of the pirate variety.  the pirate goody bags (target) were filled with a pirate eye patch, a sheet of pirate stickers (target again) and an individually wrapped twizzler for good measure.

pirate booty

we opted for a big “arrrrgh” followed by a sweet “be mine, xoxo rush” on the valentine.

argggh

we’ve had lots of fun designing other valentine items for our clients, too!  like this adorable valentine’s day inspired cookie decorating birthday party invitation.  filing that idea away for sure…although my kids don’t have any holidays around their birthdays.  well, cool holidays anyway.  memorial day and labor day.  one can’t do much with those.

how fun are the dots in all shades of pink, purple and red?

valentine cookie party1

but it wouldn’t be a very valentine-y invitation without a heart, right?

heart and dots

we also fashioned up some of my favorite people with a valentine’s day card – when you are busy gutting and remodeling a house and oh, taking care of a newborn too, christmas card season might pass you by!

jen's vday card

psssst, it’s jen from austin who sold her amazing house we stayed at, only to fix up another house with her immense design prowess…i can’t wait to see it!!

how sweet it is

to be loved by you

and that picture, i die.  such little sweeties that i love dearly.

my own little sweeties and i are off to rush’s 1st dentist appointment (am i mean or what??), only to be followed with some prompt tooth decaying activity at sublime doughnuts.  one more heart before you go….

elbow hearts

happy valentine’s day! xoxo

time for tea and crumpets

not gonna lie…i might be sort of really excited for rinne to start playing dress-up.  what fun will that be!  i mean, until she refuses to wear anything but her ariel mermaid costume to publix.  number one on all little girls’ lists of dress-up characters always seems to be a princess.  i can see why; the jewels, carriages, gowns, footwear, a dashing prince – not a bad gig.  i absolutely adored the idea of a joint fifth birthday party where high tea was served, and all guests wore princess dresses.

princess birthday party 1

of course every princess needs a tiara (preferably diamond encrusted).
